Looking for ways to preserve all those garden tomatoes? The time is coming up where we are going to need to preserve our Summer garden bounty. Last year we planted 6 cherry tomato plants, and ended up with buckets full of them. Growing tomatoes is so rewarding, they grow and produce so well, even if you are a beginning gardener. If you don’t have tomatoes growing already, go out and plant some! I didn’t want to spend the time skinning them for sauce, so I tried dehydrating them. Voila, sun dried tomatoes. They store well, taste yummy, and you can use them in so many ways.

Did that get your ideas rolling? I had tried to dehydrate with the sun in the past, and ants got my food. I know it works for others though, so try it if you don’t have a dehydrator. This would work with any type of tomato too, but I love how it worked with cherry since they are so small. Lets enjoy tomatoes all year long!
How to Dehydrate Tomatoes
- With these small tomatoes I quarter them, with larger tomatoes you can slice them.
- Line them on the dehydrator trays, and sprinkle with salt.
- 130 degrees for about 12-14 hours.
- I store them in a jar in the pantry. Make sure they are dry, you might need a little more time.
If you are looking for a dehydrator, this is the one I have had for several years.
