This morning our irrigation was scheduled to start at 4 am. 4 am. I don’t know anyone that *likes* to wake up at 4 am. As a mom with 3 small children, I savor every bit of my sleep.
My alarm was set for 3:55 am, because the grass and trees need water.
It’s Just Another Irrigation Day
Of course, my toddler slept through the alarm, but as I was opening the door to leave the room he sat up and cried. So here I am, 4 am in my sweats, holding my flashlight and toddler walking down the driveway. Grumpy would be a good way to describe my attitude.
What I have to do is open up the ports, and put a triangle thing in the ditch to stop the water. Then walked to the side ditch to watch the water flow over there. Sometimes that area gets clogged, and it needs to be cleaned out or it floods a dry area. Ask me how I know. 😉
I took my son inside to put him back to sleep. He went to sleep right away, but I was wide awake. I peeked out my window and saw the sun starting to rise.
I sneaked out of the room (like a ninja this time so the baby would stay asleep), and walked outside. It was so quiet. No roosters crowing, no animals baa-ing at me for hay. There were no little kids tugging at my legs and asking a million questions.
Quiet. Still. Peaceful.
The mornings can be such a rejuvenating time if we let it. The sunrise changed my mood immediately! I spent the next hour watching the irrigation water flow, nourishing my grass and trees.
I watched the chickens hop out of their coop and stretch their legs. Some of the hens running to their favorite nest to lay an egg, and others wandering off to find some bugs.
I played fetch with my dog, he really enjoys running in the water, and it is so funny to watch.
What a great excuse to get up and enjoy nature before the demands of the day begin. Another simple way to find joy in the journey, peace during the ciaos, and breathe in the fresh air.
Now it’s time to go embrace the ciaos and go watch my kids swim in the irrigation. Have a great morning!

Oh what memories! I grew up in Arizona and irrigation was my one of my favorite things to do…once we got started! Thanks for sharing🤣
Irrigation is awesome, don’t know what we would do without it. 🙂
